Radioactive Material Inventory

The Radiation Safety Division currently uses a software program called HP Assistant(HPA) to track all Radioactive Material (RAM) inventory at UNM. From initial receipt to final disposal, all RAM is tracked by receipt date, activity, location, and user. HPA allows us to provide you with up-to-date information on all packages received by our Division. Following are the steps to take in Radioactive Material procurement:

  1. Check to see if your Permit Holder is allowed the material under their permit. If not, the Permit Holder must request to have the material added to their permit. The request should include the radionuclide, maximum activity, location of use, and the proposed use of the material.*
  2. Receive an Authorization Code (or Requisition #) from our office (277-2753). You will need to provide us with information (e.g., Permit Holder, radionuclide, activity, vendor, PO #, etc.) before a code will be issued.
  3. Instruct the vendor to put this code on the shipping paper or outside of package before shipping to UNM.
  4. Ship to: University of New Mexico, SHEA/Bldg. 233, 1801 Tucker St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87131
  5. Delivery to your location will be accomplished the same day we receive the package unless we inform you otherwise.
NOTE: Procedures which generate MIXED WASTE are NOT ALLOWED at UNM until waste management issues are addressed!
