Benzene
Target Audience: Includes any UNM employee who works with benzene compounds with emphasis on employees who work in laboratories. In some cases, this module is appropriate to share with students and volunteers. This module is not designed for maintenance personnel involved in benzene operations. Those persons should request a special class from the SRS Industrial Hygiene Division.
Purpose: Provide information to UNM employees about the hazards associated with exposure to benzene.
Content: Contains information on the specific health hazards associated with exposure to benzene lead, symptoms of benzene exposure, Permissable Exposure Limits (PEL) of benzene, determining exposure to benzene, preventive measures, medical surveillance, storage and disposal and what to do in the event of a benzene spill or accident.
