Biosafety
Target Audience: Includes any person at UNM working with any pathogenic agent that carries a probable risk of transmitting disease or illness in healthy people, animals or plants. This primarily involves individuals working in a research setting and/or a laboratory assigned a Biosafety level.
Purpose: Provides safety information that focuses on pathogenic agents. The intent is to help protect employees from hazards associated with these pathogenic agents. And is required for anybody working with pathogenic agents. It is also required prior to approval of any research protocol submitted to the UNM Biosafety Committee.
Content: Includes information on the types of pathogenic agents, identification of Biosafety levels and accompanying preventive measures, emergency procedures for spills and special sections on select agents and R-DNA.
